Few artists manage to sell millions of records and land the number one hit right from their first release, but that's exactly what happened to Jeannie C. Riley. A high-waisted, miniskirt-and-high-boots-wearing country siren, she eventually identified completely with the role of Widow Johnson from her international hit "Harper Valley P.T.A" by Tom T. Hall.
In fact, Jeannie broke out of familiar role models and became famous for both her looks and her singing, while providing the antithesis to the typical image of the country singer with a wholesome family, long dresses and frills (which, ironically, was the look she would have actually preferred).
Over the decades, her records disappeared and the songs were hard to find on CD - this unique compilation remedies that: 56 tracks on two CDs of recordings for the Plantation label from 1968 to 1970. A compilation of the first five albums, "Harper Valley P.T.A", "Yearbooks And Yesterdays", "Things Go Better With Love", "Country Girl" and "The Generation Gap" with a rare B-side that never appeared on an album.
